Industrial wastewater volume reduction through osmotic concentration: Membrane module selection and process modeling

چکیده

Osmotic concentration (OC), a form of forward osmosis (FO) but without draw solution recovery, can be applied for reducing wastewater disposal volumes in the oil & gas industry. Within this industry, is often disposed by injection through wells into deep underground reservoirs. By volumes, sustainability reservoir improved. In application OC, seawater or brine from desalination plant serves as and diluted discharged to sea. This study compared 3 commercial hollow-fiber FO membranes (CTA, TFC, aquaporin proteins) volume low salinity generated during liquified natural (LNG) production. Additionally, model was developed predict performance full-scale identifying optimum operating conditions, taking consideration trade-off between feed factor water flux. Bench-scale tests were conducted using synthetic actual an LNG facility evaluate OC technology validate predictions. Based on results with mimicking wastewater, 4x produced reasonable compromise recovery dilution considered future tests. At higher factors, increased negatively impacted bench real TFC chemistry had ≈5x flux (9.7 vs. 1.9 L/m2-h) ≈3x lower specific reverse solute (192 551 mg/L) CTA chemistry. However, both showed less than 5% fouling organic 0.5 mg/L total carbon (TOC). Pilot testing >50 h stable performance, comparable scale data

Chitosan/Polyethersulfone Composite Nanofiltration Membrane for Industrial Wastewater Treatment

Chitosan/polyethersulfone (CS/PES) composite membrane was prepared from casting chitosan solution on polyethersulfone substrate membrane. The Substrate membrane was prepared by phase inversion technique using polyethersulfone (PES) and dimethylacetamide (DMAc) as solvent with and without the addition of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as pore-forming agent. The effects of the composition of the c...
